When the SS badge returned to Chevrolet, we were pretty excited. But then the double letter #19 made its way onto the last generation Malibu, and we were immediately and nearly permanently turned off. General Motors later turned up the heat with the turbocharged Cobalt SS and HHR SS , and while we liked those models very much, they in no way conjured up thoughts of 1960's and 1970's Impala and Chevelle SS models.

The Board of Education reviewed a new budget format at its meeting Tuesday, November 17. Board members also received the strategic school plan. Superintendent Dr. Janet Robinson announced the meeting was Elaine McClure's last as board chair.

Arizona Schools Chief Tom Horne today announced major progress in getting our students to eat healthier food. The percentage of secondary schools in Arizona in which students could not purchase less nutritious food and beverages, such as candy and soda, increased significantly between 2006 and 2008, according to a report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). I was able to get legislation passed in 2005 requiring nutrition standards for all food and beverages in elementary and middle school. The standards apply to all foods and beverages sold in vending machines, snack bars, a la carte, fundraisers and school events during the normal school day. High schools participate on a voluntary basis, and it is encouraging to see this improvement in high school performance.   -Tom Horne

 

According to The Hollywood Reporter , Marvel Studios has tapped Elba to play the role of Norse god Heimdall in their upcoming big budget comic adaptation 'Thor.' It marks the second major comic book role for the actor, who also plays betrayed government operative Roque in next year's 'The Losers' , based on the DC Comics title of the same name. The announcement is just the latest in a series of casting decisions on 'Thor,' which has been rounding into shape since noted actor/director Kenneth Branagh took
